The NDP caucus unanimously voted this morning to have New Westminster MLA Dawn Black, take over as interim party leader. She will replace Carole James who was forced to step down in a mutiny by the Bakers Dozen lead by NDP MLA Jenny Kwan.
Dawn Black is a former federal NDP MP who was elected to the provincial legislature in 2009. She has served as opposition critic for advanced education and labour market development.
There are six candidates in the running to succeed Carole James as party leader -- they are MLA's Mike Farnworth, Adrian Dix, John Horgan, Harry Lali and Nicholas Simons along with pot activist Dana Larsen.
