I have enough Drama in my life right now, and I don't really need to add any fuel to the fire

Greetings friends ... I have been a little on the busy side lately, and not able to write as often as I'd like to on the Conservative Thoughts blog.  I just recently had a conversation the other day however, and thought that it would be worthwhile sharing it with you.

I sent out an email blast last week, about stops that BC Conservative Party leadership candidate Dan Brooks would be making.  This is that conversation, which may strike a cord with you -- I know it will with some.

This is an exciting time for our party, as we move forward to a new and brighter future.

Part of that of course is the current campaign now underway to elect the next leader of OUR party.

I am pleased to let you know that BC Conservative Party leadership candidate Dan Brooks will be making stops in ___ xyz city ___ on ___ November 123 ___.

I am contacting you today to see if you will be able to get together and meet with Dan ... and ask any questions you may have about him and the future of the BC Conservative Party.

Well I let that discourage me for a bit, but then I said to myself, 'He hasn't said he's given up on the party ... only that he's had enough of all the turmoil'.  So, I decided to take a chance (maybe a risk), and send a reply back:

Thanks Scott ... I appreciate your follow-up, and the sincerity of your comments about the party.

I do not say this with any disrespect ... it is just an observation that I think 'may' be close to hitting the mark.  I think perhaps you are likely like some others in the party; demoralized and discouraged, and wondering, "Do I really want to do this again?"

I feel comfortable in making this observation because it is a place I too have been.

Until this years AGM, I was a Regional Director with the Party for three years.  I got to experience first hand the cancer that was creating a storm of dissent within the party; it was not a place, or a time, that I would wish on anyone. Despite that I (and others) hung in because we believed there must be a true conservative voice in BC -- not a watered down version represented by Christy Clark and the BC Liberals.

I also volunteered as the campaign manager for our Kamloops South Thompson candidate in the May general election.  There were too few of us on our team, but those we had, put in a huge effort to do the work of many -- again because we believed there had to be a true conservative option for people to vote for. Sadly the damage done by the dissidents in our party, had eroded the support we had been gaining, and as you know, we elected no members to the legislature in May.

At that point my discouragement was pretty much complete, and I was close to throwing in the towel.  Then Dan Brooks stepped forward and said he was seeking to lead the BC Conservatives. I thought to myself, "Why would anyone want to do that?"

I had the opportunity to meet and speak with him on several occasions, and every time I did, I heard him speak with power and passion about conservatism ... I heard him speak bout empowering the grassroots ... and making sure that BC Conservatives never again go through the kind of infighting that took place last year.

Personally, I would like to do more than keep you 'updated with Party news' ... and while I appreciate that you wish Dan 'all the best in rebuilding the Party' ... we need all hands on deck for that to happen.

I ask for you to give one hour of your time, and see if Dan makes you a believer that we can indeed create a party that the people of BC can support, starting first of all by governing ourselves in a way that can give others the confidence they'll need to come on board with us.

Its one hour of your time ... but I can't think of a better way to spend it.  You'll see and hear first hand from Dan -- get your own impression of him -- and see for yourself the passion that he has to make our province a better place for all British Columbians.

A message from BC Conservative Party 'member' Alan Forseth

First let me start off by stating, "YES" I am the Campaign Manager for Dan Brooks leadership campaign, but my writing this post today is not about that, it is about something far more important. 

Some who are reading this message are BC Conservative Party  members, some former members, and some are supporters ... some are still active and working hard on behalf of the party -- others have become discouraged.

I am not discouraged, and let me tell you why. 

BC Conservatives, while not winning any seats in the May general election, played an important role; and that role must be built on.  We presented a message that needed to be heard; one of a caring and compassionate society ... of fiscal responsibility ... of environmentally sound resource management ... and of government accountability. 

Those are things which are vitally important to our province, which is why we now MUST build on the initial foundation which has been built.

In the current leadership race for the BC Conservatives, two individuals have stepped forward who believe in our party --- and it's future. I want to encourage you to follow their campaigns, and to take the opportunity to meet with both Dan Brooks, and Rick Peterson, when they are in your community.  Ask them the questions you want answers too.

There is a future for the BC Conservative Party --- an important one -- and we WILL be challenging the BC Liberals and the NDP in the next election in 2017.  I hope that future includes you playing a role in bringing our platform of common sense ideas to the people of BC ... and ensuring that we do indeed make history by electing BC Conservatives to the legislature.

Forseth endorses Brooks for Leader, joins team as Campaign Manager

It's official ... and I am announcing the following today:

 

 

KAMLOOPS:  Dan Brooks, candidate for the leadership of the BC Conservatives, today announced that Al Forseth, a long-time party member, regional director and former constituency-association president, has endorsed him as the best choice for Leader.

Brooks also announced that Forseth has accepted an appointment as Campaign Manager of his leadership team.

“I am absolutely thrilled to have Al Forseth endorse my candidacy and join my campaign team as manager,” said Brooks.

“Al’s passion and dedication are legendary throughout our party and across the province, and his decision to manage my leadership campaign sends a strong signal of our unwavering commitment to building the BC Conservative Party into a vital force that will be reckoned with well into the future.”

Forseth said that Brooks shares his belief that British Columbians deserve a better political option than they have faced in recent years – a choice between the lesser of two evils: the New Democrats or the BC Liberals.

“The BC Conservatives – indeed, British Columbians across our great province – desperately need a Leader with a vision of how to create prosperity through well-paying jobs, a place where businesses can thrive and where we have a solid foundation for health-care, education and more,” said Forseth.

With this announcement, I will no longer be be considered neutral in commenting on the BC Conservative Party leadership campaign.  That said, I WILL however continue to make comment on social media, and on this blog, on things I beleive are important to our party -- and that includes information on Rick Peterson's campaign, and the vision and direction he also has for the party.

I fact, in conversation with Dan regarding my endorsement, and taking on the role of Campaign Manager, I indicated that it would be a deal-breaker if this was not acceptable.

To quote Dan ... "I wouldn't have it any other way."

Yesterday (June 8th) blogger and political commentator Alex Tsakumis wrote a piece entitled ‘EXCLUSIVE’ BREAKING NEWS: BC Conservative Leader Set to Resign Immediately! 

It was typical of his style of writing in that it took the scorched earth approach in lambasting people / individuals.  This time, it was John Cummins once again in his sites.

I was notified off his piece by an acquaintance, and after viewing what he had written, and some of the comments from his readers, I decided that perhaps I would, after all, post a comment.

I knew in advance it would cause Alex to begin frothing at the mouth, and it indeed did not take long.

If you go to the actual blog piece you will notice many of my responses were not allowed to see the light of day by him.  Despite the fact that they were posted long before some of the others, they still remain, Your comment is awaiting moderation

The following have NOT been edited or changed in any way by me. I ask you, does any level headed political commentator write and say the things he does?

I am sad and disappointed — but not surprised — to see you write what many have come to expect from you, Alex .  

After skewering John Cummins, with your usual negative ground scorching rhetoric, you then went on to say, ” I wish John Cummins and his family well. He’s served the public as best he could and for that he is to be commended and afforded the honour and respect that goes with it.” 

All I can say to you sir is … what a pompous and arrogant ass!

Well … you were totally and completely not up to your usual efforts Alex. Well gosh durn gee whiz (is this the talk you expect from what you proclaim to be Neanderthal conservatives? You are a pitiful creature sir, and anything but the adoring admiration of you band of your blind adherents will do.

You can think anything you wish of John Cummins — and our members — myself included. BUT to them follow-up with a meaningless asinine congratulatory close is complete and utter arrogance.

Your self-stroking checklist of so called faults has NOTHING to do with what you wrote in your so-called Exclusive Breaking News story — nor does it have anything to do with my comments.

It is little more than part of your on-going campaign of caustic comments, with no real understanding of our goals — which have nothing to do with our so-called social / religious miss-deeds — and DOES have everything to do with a straight forward message of fiscal conservatisms, job creation, provided needed services, and strengthening health and education.

Carry on oh great one — and a sure your adorning fans will cheer you on as you continue your campaign of hate speech

God squad Conservatives are the reason we have Christy, and Alan was a big part of that with his friends… I saved the screenshots..

As for what people expect from Alex, we expect him to hold zealots like you to account, exactly what he is doing.

Who are you to come here and condescend to Alex, and by extension, us his readers. It seems your party needs YOUR attention redeeming itself, especially after screwing us over, by dividing votes with your WEAK leader.. pay attention to your own weaknesses as God would tell you.

Alan those of us that pay attention are laughing right now because your *cough* loyalty has been pretty thin on social media.. hypocrisy knows no boundaries as you’ve so clearly demonstrated here today…

After reading something you said and did a few weeks ago I’ve been waiting for this moment…

Ah …a loyal defender of the hate drivel that Alex writes –it took longer than I thought t would

Call me whatever you like — makes no never minds to me; however I will not tolerate patent lies and miss-representations

I for one will NOT be stuck in the rut of self-serving righteous adherents to anything.

I have deliberately cast a wide net for people with many thoughts and ideas that do not necessarily agree with mine. It challenges me and others to look closely at my beliefs, and to make changes when and where it is needed.

Exploring new and different ideas has always been key to growing and learning — something I’m pretty sure most would agree with

Could this in fact be the real reason, for the BC Liberal government, to be declaring they will not agree to the Northern Gateway Pipeline proceeding

Let me begin today's Conservative Thoughts blog post with the following:

"Under our feet lies as much energy as Alberta has in its oil patch. It is in the form of natural gas, a cleaner alternative to oil or coal, in the Northeast corner of British Columbia ... our goal is to have a Liquefied Natural Gas industry that will add value to our abundant natural gas resource by shipping it by sea to Asia ..." ~~~ 2013 BC Liberal Election Platform

With the Final Hearings and Questioning Phase yet to be held, by the Enbridge Northern Gateway Project Joint Review Panel, the BC Liberal government Environment Minister, Terry Lake, has already announced "Our questions were not satisfactorily answered during these hearings." 

 

For those unaware ... there are still twelve days of hearings yet to be held in Terrace from June 17th and 28th.  Would it not seem to be in BC's best interests to wait for them (the hearings) to conclude before coming to that decision? 

 

BC needs a provincial government that is prepared to work with and for British Columbians, to implement policies that take full advantage of our natural resources, our geographic position, and our hard-working residents.  

 

Yet despite that, and just two short weeks after the provincial election, both Premier Christy Clark, and Environment Minister Terry Lake, are both showing the Liberals are going to be a failure in that area.  

 

Our province has suffered ongoing interprovincial population loses since Christy Clark first became Premier two and a half years ago.  With Environment Minister Terry Lake's announcement Friday, the people of BC can except that trend, officially documented and recorded by BC Stats, will continue. 

 

Once again, this government, led by Premier Christy Clark, is about to betray the hard working men and women of the Peace River and Northern BC, by rejecting the Northern Gateway development, before the Review Panel completes its duties. 

 

It's one thing to criticize, but what are your expectations; what will satisfy your government?  Both Terry Lake and Christy Clark can't simply say they are opposed.  What is the government's real position; and what outcomes do you need to have met, so that they can be realistically addressed. 

 

In a story on Saturday (June 1st), in the Kamloops Daily News, they state:
Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development Minister Diana McQueen issued a statement saying the two provinces have a shared commitment to both protecting the environment and economic growth. 

The time to lick wounds is over --- the time to show we still BELIEVE in BC begins right now!

For those who have never met me (July 2012)

am cheating -- a bit -- with todays Conservative Thoughts blog post.  It's an email which I sent out to BC Conservative members in Kamloops South, part of the existing Kamloops South Thompson Constituency Association Board of Directors, some people who contacted us during the election campaign, or who are on my contact list of people from around the province ...

The other day I made a comment and post stating: "People may say they are concerned about the kind of representation (or lack of it) they are receiving -- but it seems we can be led to support a political party that paints the other as the lesser of two evils -- no matter what options may be available from choices available across the political spectrum. Thus, in my opinion, the momentum for the downward spiral continues ... "

It was the start to my first Conservative Thoughts post (http://kamloopsthompsonbcconservatives.blogspot.ca/2013/05/yes-i-am-disappointed-in-results-of.html), since taking a break over 11 weeks ago now, to be directly involved in the election campaign for the BC Conservatives in Kamloops South Thompson.  I also stated, in that post, that I did not want it to be considered sour grapes as it was NOT my intent; it was just my observation after watching all of the work and efforts put in by a number of great candidates and campaign workers, in individual riding's, right across the province.

I have been asked for my thoughts on why we were not able to connect with voters ... my thoughts on the campaign ... where we went wrong ... did we attack the Liberals (and / or the NDP) hard enough.  One of the best comments posed however, at least in my opinion, was as follows: "Define the ballot issue then define your opponent - a recipe for victory every time."

My response was:Again I can only speak for what we tried to do here in Kamloops ... that 'was' to define an issue which we felt everything else flowed from.

Specifically that issue was: "Do BC Liberal Todd Stone, or the NDPs Tom Friedman, have the full authority of both party / leader to truly represent the interest of the people of Kamloops South Thompson on issues of concern to them? Or when push came to shove, would they have to follow the party line?".  Whether it was hospital care, Ajax Mine, the Carbon Tax, new / increasing fees, rising debt, educational needs, or a multitude of other things, we wanted to know that answer, and felt that voters should as well. 

Call me Don Quixote, but I still believe it was the right question / issue to raise; it simply did not get heard ... and for whatever reason, it was not something which the media (which I was part of for 25 years) chose to ask and get a direct answer to.  In the end, this campaign again boiled down to 'fear' of one party over the other. That was, at least in my opinion, the only issue that defined this campaign.

Was I wrong?  Lots of people I am sure will think so, and there's nothing wrong with that.  There will likely be as many reasons why we lost, as there are individuals. 

Regardless however, we DID increase our popular vote.  People DO want our voice to be heard, and they DO want to have BC Conservatives on the ballot ... WE DO have a message that is important.

So now, we get down to the nitty-gritty.

The 5th most read blog post comes from October 11th, and it was entitled "Someone is pulling the strings from behind –and whoever they are – they are cowards for not showing their faces"

From July 4th comes the 4th most read post; "TwiddleDee, and Twiddle Dumb. That’s what we have with the BC Liberal Party, and the BC New Democrats"

The third most read story, "What they believe, and stand for, are the things that will guide them in government",  comes from April 26th

Some in the media and public believe that the BC Conservative Party has viewpoints that would be opposed by the majority of British Columbians, and has no clearly defined plans and ideas.  Given that, I thought that I would do a side by side comparison

And our last look back today will be the 2nd most read commentary from 2012.  It comes from January 16th, and was entitled, "Hiring Ken Boessenkool is for the partisan purpose of making the BC Liberal government look good" 

Is the Premiers Office a non-partisan part of the government of BC --- or is it an extension of the BC Liberal Party?  I ask this question because it is becoming increasing unclear what it’s exact 'political' purpose is.

Merritt Home to First BC Conservative Candidate to Declare in the running for the Fraser Nicola Riding

BC Conservative Party members, from across the Fraser Nicola electoral district, gathered this afternoon in the Cache Creek community hall.

"Today's event was to officially bring in to existence the BC Conservative Party Constituency Association for Fraser Nicola ... and secondly to hear the announcement of the first person who has declared they will seek the nod of members to run in next Mays provincial election", declared Regional Director Alan Forseth.

Elected to the first board were Dan Cummings of Savona, Wayne Ferguson of Seton Portage, Ted Lund of Merritt, Patrick Mulldoon of Logan Lake, Shaun Freeman of Savona, as well as Michael Beauclair of Merritt.

Following the election of the board members, Forseth then went on to announce the first person approved to seek the nomination for Fraser Nicola.

"It is my pleasure today to introduce you to an individual who is married, has two children, and who lives in the community of Merritt. He has worked with timber for over 24 years, and has scale and graded our provinces most precious natural resource for 17 years on the Coast and the Interior."

"That individual is Michael Beauclair"

Mr. Beauclair spoke for several minutes, talking the time to let members know a bit about himself, and the things that are, and will be, important to voters in the riding in the next election.

BC Conservatives in Kamloops set to announce first nominee candidate

Hello again friends .. today I pass on the media release which went out yesterday to radio, newspaper, and TV in Kamloops:

Monday.  That's when Kamloops South Thompson BC Conservative Party members will find out the name of the first person, who will be seeking the nomination to run as their candidate, in next May's provincial general election.

"We have spoken to a number of people over the past few months about running for the party", said Regional Director Alan Forseth.

Forseth continued, "This individual does have previous political experience, and will be well known to the people of Kamloops."

"We also expect they will be the first of several, to put their name forward, which is why we will continue to speak with other interested men and women."

"Anyone who believes in open and accountable government, and truly representing the people who have elected them, are welcome to seek the nomination", Forseth concluded.

Monday's announcement will be made at 12 noon in Gaglardi Square, on Seymour Street, in Downtown Kamloops. 

Kamloops South Thompson BC Conservative members will vote, to elect their candidate, early in the new year.

You may well understand what I'd think of anyone, who made the claim, any of the individuals was not dealt with in a process that included much thought and deliberation

As many of you know, I am the Regional Director of the BC Conservative Party, for the Kamloops Thompson Fraser Nicola region.

Some in the media have accused our party of being quick to react to criticism, of being harsh and uncaring.

I'm not asking for sympathy, however the reality of my weekend included two separate provincial board meetings for the BC Conservative Party.  

One of these lasted 3 hours and 15 minutes ... the other of which was 3 hour and 30 minutes -- dealing with problems arising from very public comments made by some of not just a lack of support of John Cummins, but that he resign, despite the overwhelming will of the membership who have a completely different opinion.

Several hours were also needed to go over material and information prior to these meetings ... and for follow-up today.

Suffice to say you may well understand what I'd think of anyone, who made the claim, any of the individuals was not dealt with in a process that included much thought and deliberation.

And the result?  

Hmmmm … I think I have made my point. No wait, it’s Alex who has made my point for me

I find it interesting that when bully’s get called out for their actions, they go in to a defensive mode that results in attacking those who MAY be questioning their thoughts / opinions … or perhaps who wish to present another side to things.

Such is the case, apparently, with Alex Tsakumis, who has not appreciated that I have publicly stated his comments can often be caustic and vile.

In his latest posting today, Alex Tsakumis had these comments to make about me:

And while the far left were in full swing in attacking me–ON A THREAD WHERE THE BASE STORY WAS ABOUT A DEAD GIRL, along came the far right. Alan Foresth, the chief defender of John Cummins–BC’s biggest bully–an ACTIVE bully, decided he couldn’t keep his trap shut either. One of the biggest whiners I’ve ever encountered, the flypaper of bloggers, couldn’t wait to lay in with more useless drivel about my “caustic” nature.

Funny that. Marjorie Nichols, Allan Fotheringham, Jack Webster, Pat Burns, Jack Wasserman, Les Bewley, Gary Bannerman and the immortal Rafe Mair, to name a few, all called that REAL JOURNALISM.

Was Christopher Hitchens caustic? You bet. What about Carl Bernstein? Of course,

How ’bout some active examples? Rex Murphy? Yes! George Jonas? Yes! Christie Blatchford? Yes!

This, to Forseth, is bad. All while he defends the biggest bully in the history of BC politics, John Cummins. Alan, you remain a joke. Go away.

WOW … he has just listed off some of the GREATEST journalists, editorialist, and political commentators.  Some have indeed been pretty sharp in their words – however NONE I believe have made it a HABIT of being caustic and vile in responding to other with opinions not lining up with how he sees things.

The continued bullying we see in society amongst the adults & children is chilling. I don’t know how it got this bad & I don’t know how it will get better. Not only is bulling amongst children verbal, its actions …..

…. As to other “commentaters” who refer to you as a bully, they need to get with the agenda or find another type of work. The exchange of views, information, etc. is a loaded field. I don’t agree with a lot of what you write, I’m NDP but I have not found your writing to be bullying in nature. You express an opinion, people respond, if you don’t like what they say they are notified in sometimes very funny terms, but it isn’t bullying.

Do we have political bullies, you bet. Are they going to go away, not any time soon. Do we have a right to call them that, yes. Expressing one’s views, if done properly, is never bullying. Its usually called democracy.

Hi eaf … if Alex chooses to post this, I wish to say that I haven’t hid behind anything, and have been clear and upfront. My comments are posted under my name for all to see, and I believe them to be fair, but that is up to you and others to decide.

I recently said, and I quote: “I find it sad that this man finds it necessary to put forward vile poison, and write words that are caustic and mean-spirited. Sadly, they take away from any and all good journalistic work he has done.”

Today (October 10th) Alex Tsakumis says: BC Conservative Despot John Cummins Confuses “Ultimatum” with Ultimate Mayhem!

Having never met, or spoken to me, Alex Tsakumis also says that I am, and I quote:  "a charter member of the Despot’s ‘God Squad’, sprung from the silo 2attack me."

I find it sad that this man finds it necessary to put forward vile poison, and write words that are caustic and mean-spirited. Sadly, they take away from any and all good journalistic work he has done.

Stupid is as stupid does. Al Foresth has decided to do a follow up. Not answering any of the SIGNIFICANT failings of his party leader–or the party in general, that continues in freefall, he’s taking another run at me. LEt’s see how he survives by next salvo.

I added the BOLD font just to highlight for you what I considered to be the pertinent parts. 

I guess there is really no need to remind, and point out, the obvious.  That is, Alex T refuses to allow for anyone to question anything he says and writes -- nor allows for a dissenting opinion.
