I love hearing good news!

Each day the BC Conservative Party, through the efforts of 100's of individuals, gets closer and closer to preparing to provide British Columbians with a true option they can support -- and vote for.

Last night I was delighted to receive notice that the Richmond Delta area is now complete with all Constituency Associations officially recognized by the party -- and Elections BC.

Congratulations to Christopher, and everyone who worked hard to accomplish this milestone!

Here in the Kamloops, Thompson Fraser Nicola region we now have both the Kamloops South Thompson, and Kamloops North Thompson Constituency Associations recognized by the party, and Elections BC.  

That's two down, with just Fraser Nicola to go.

Headed to the BC Conservative Party AGM

It's Friday ... and this afternoon I will be headed to Nanaimo for the BC Conservative Party AGM.  In addition to electing a new board and executive for the party, we will also be discussing and adopting the DRAFT policy document of the party.

This has been an exciting time over the past year as 100's of members of the BC Conservatives party have worked hard to put this document together ... including many of us here in the Kamloops, Thompson, Nicola region.  

It represents the common sense ideas of people from all walks of life -- and it will be great to remove the word "DRAFT" from it.

I'll have more to say as the weekend progresses so let's keep in touch!

BC Liberals no more fiscally responsible than NDP.

Plain and simple, the BC liberal Party has given up any right to claim being fiscally responsibile, when it comes to the finances of British Columbia.  In fact, with the provinces debt now approaching the $60 billion dollar mark, the BC Liberals have shown themselves to be no more fiscally responsible than the NDP.

The NDP actually appear to have been more fiscally responsible than the Liberals because they took the debt up to $30 billion from its initial starting point. Liberals however; including current Finance Minister Colin Hansen, have actually raised the debt by $30 billion.

In so doing, they are holding future generations to ransom to pay down this debt, and they have left today’s taxpayers responsible for debt payments of $8 million dollars a day.

Leadership of the BC Conservatives and Policy Development

As mentioned on this blog last Thursday, the BC Conservative Party will be holding a leadership race, culminating in a vote by members ending May 28^th.  BC Conservative Party spokesperson Keith Roy of Vancouver had the following announcement which was released to the media:

The BC Conservative Party is holding a convention to elect a new leader on May 28, 2011.  The convention will take place somewhere in the Fraser Valley or Lower mainland at a soon to be determined location.

According to the constitution of the party, the election of a leader will be by universal ballot, with ballots mailed to every member at least 15 days prior to the leadership convention date.  Ballots may be returned by mail or delivered to the convention.

“Our leadership race will be a truly dynamic and democratic race,” says Wayne McGrath, President of the BC Conservative Party.  “Members from all across the province will have an opportunity to select a new leader.”

As this year rapidly draws to a close, many people were asking what the likelihood of a provincial election was for next year.  While one Liberal leadership candidate, Christy Clark was saying there should be one if she is elected -- other leadership hopefuls have been saying no.  Regardless, Elections BC says they will need six months to prepare and get voters lists ready.  Keep in mind though there is at least the possibility we could have a few by-elections depending on the outcome of recall campaigns -- and depending on the winner of the NDP and Liberal leadership races.
