BC Liberals no more fiscally responsible than NDP.

Plain and simple, the BC liberal Party has given up any right to claim being fiscally responsibile, when it comes to the finances of British Columbia.  In fact, with the provinces debt now approaching the $60 billion dollar mark, the BC Liberals have shown themselves to be no more fiscally responsible than the NDP.

The NDP actually appear to have been more fiscally responsible than the Liberals because they took the debt up to $30 billion from its initial starting point. Liberals however; including current Finance Minister Colin Hansen, have actually raised the debt by $30 billion.

In so doing, they are holding future generations to ransom to pay down this debt, and they have left today’s taxpayers responsible for debt payments of $8 million dollars a day.

The tragedy of that is that we have become the government’s co-signer in responsibility for that debt.  And as co-signers, foreign and domestic bondholders, holding government debt, will be expecting us to pay up.

The Liberals have declared themselves to be the coalition of the reasonable – and I believe the intent of that statement was to let it be known they were the ONLY choice between the socialist left in the clothing of the NDP --- and the right wing heartless and uncaring side of politics which they declared to be first the BC Reform Party and now today’s BC Conservatives.

The problem is, the BC Liberals can no longer claim the mantel of the reasonable, which they never had a right to in the first place.  Consider this:
·         BC Conservatives believe that government needs to be open and accountable to the public
·         BC Conservatives believe that the citizens of this province need to know what it costs to run government, and be a part of the decision making process
·         BC Conservatives believe that we need to create good well paying jobs people can raise their families on – AND ensure we protect the environment
·         BC Conservatives hold to the belief that MLAs in the legislature must be accountable to the people in the riding that have elected them
·         BC Conservatives believe in an education system that allow parents to have input and involvement in decisions that affect their children
·    and BC Conservatives believe that government should be responsive to the needs of our neighbours, family, and friends that require a hand up from difficulties of life.

Reading that list does anything strike you as a philosophy or belief that the majority of British Columbians would not be able to support?  Most I believe would consider all of the above as reasonable.

After all ... the Liberals by the very nature of their actions have shown themselves NOT to be responsible as they send us into ever increasing debt -- cause more and more concern with parents as they wonder if their neighbourhood school will be the next to close -- as patient care deteriorates and families find it harder and harder to have a family doctor -- and as they put on a phony green cloak of environmentalism while cashing in on the carbon tax.

Here in the Kamloops, the Thompson / Nicola, and Cariboo / Chilcotin, and in fact all across the province, BC Conservatives are building a grassroots party from the ground up. This is a process that seriously started a couple of years back, but is now in full swing. Constituency Associations everywhere are being recognized by the party, and many have begun the process to get approval of elections BC.

During the month of March, the BC Conservative party will begin a leadership race that will end with a man or woman elected who is best suited to meet the needs, wishes, and desires of British Columbian's.  On May 28th a man or a woman will be elected that has a vision on how to bring about a new era of government which is open, accountable, and responsive to the needs of British Columbian's.

On May 28th, 2011 the BC Conservative Party will move to the next step in the process of rebuilding; a campaign that in just over two years time, during the next provincial election, will see BC Conservative MLA’s in the BC legislature for the first time in 35 years.

I'm Alan Forseth in Kamloops, and those are the thoughts of one conservative.
