The 3rd session of BC's 39th Parliament opened yesterday --- WHY?

Yesterday in Victoria, Lieutenant-Governor Steven L. Point open the third session of the 39th Parliament of British Columbia, as he delivered a throne speech outlining government’s agenda for change in the coming year.

This of course is a mean nothing Throne Speech as members of the BC Liberal party will be electing a new leader February 26th, who will then become the next premier of the province, replacing Gordon Campbell.

For the official transcript of the throne speech by Lieutenant Governor Steven L. Point can be found online -- CLICK HERE.  You can also CLICK HERE to download a .pdf document of the complete speech.

In their view of yesterdays Throne Speech yesterday, Canadian Press said:

So what happens today in the BC Legislature in Victoria?  At approximately 2:45 pm today Finance Minister Colin Hansen will rise in the Legislature to deliver the Budget Speech.  If you are reading this prior to that, you can Click here to visit the Budget 2011 website.  Live streaming of the Budget Speech will begin at 2pm.

Again given the fact that there will be a new BC Liberal Leader elected shortly, the likelihood of much in the budget seeing the light of day is virtually non-existent.  Their new leader will of course want to put their own stamp on government, and its financial future.

All major news media will be covering the event so log in online to find complete details as well as full analysis by financial spokespeople, business representatives’, labour leaders and others.

That’s all for today – stay tuned tomorrow for the next exciting installment of “As the Legislature Turns”.

PS ... given the fact that the next leader of the BC Liberal Party will likely be ignoring any government business announced this week in the Throne Speech and the Budget Speech, can we send the BC Liberal Party a bill for this weeks waste of taxpayer dollars?   At least they should have to pay BC Hydro for the power bill don't you think?
