Arrgghhh ... I am out of town, and after carefully (I thought) making sure I would be able to access my material for this weekends BC Political News update for the week -- it appears that I can't.
Well the big news any way is that late this afternoon / early evening, the BC Liberal Party will elect a new leader, who becomes premier of BC.
Those who read my blog are well aware that I, along with many others, believe that no matter who they elect, it will be business as usual for the BC Liberals as Gordon Campbell heads off to retirement from politics.
My viewpoint on political happenings in BC ... and odds and ends of this and that

Christy Clark said, “He ran because he believed it was important to represent an alternative to British Columbia”
BC Conservatives, and those leaning towards support of them, should be pleased with the results of a survey compiled by Hamish Marshall of Abingdon Research.
First to the conclusion … it states that the BC Liberal election coalition is fragile – and more importantly, nearly half of BC Liberals voters only support them because there is no other alternative.
It also goes on to say that should the BC Conservatives become that alternative, they could capture 20% of BC Liberal voters.
What scenario would see that most likely to happen?? It would be the election of Christy Clark as leader of the BC Liberals tomorrow, because she is seen as being too close to the Michael Ignatieff federal Liberals by nearly one in four federal Conservatives who make up two thirds of BC Liberal voters.

About George Abbott ... about Mike de Jong …
George Abbott is a BC Liberal Member of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. He represents the riding of Shuswap, which he has held since 1996. He was re-elected three times in 2001, 2005, and most recently on May 12, 2009.
Since taking office in 1996, George Abbott has held five cabinet posts spanning a number of significant portfolios. Most recently, he was appointed Minister of Education and Deputy House Leader on October 25, 2010.
What has George Abbott had to say:
· The BC Liberal government is in the "ditch of public opinion" and needs time to regain the trust of voters before calling another election, leadership candidate George Abbott says. "I frankly think that the B.C. Liberal party and the B.C. Liberal government is, at this point, at a pretty low point in the ditch of public opinion," he said.

Who is Kevin Falcon
Kevin Falcon was first elected in 2001 as a British Columbia Liberal to represent the riding of Surrey-Cloverdale, and re-elected in 2005. Before his election to the Legislative Assembly, Falcon was president of the Access Group, a corporate communications firm he formed in 1998. He has also worked in the real estate development industry and was vice-president of Northwest Investment Properties. Prior to attending university, he spent five years working in the general insurance industry.
Kevin Falcon has been touted as being part of the conservative side of the BC Liberal Party, but is he??
Kevin Falcon has been touted as being part of the conservative side of the BC Liberal Party, but is he??
He has stated, "We're not doing it the old NDP way where you borrow money you don't have and you have your grandchildren paying the costs. We're doing it pay as you go."
As Will McMartin said however, "Pay as you go" is as phony as a three-dollar bill. And that's especially true under Kevin Falcon, Gordon Campbell and their BC Liberal government.

The only “rats” are one that deliberately and maliciously spread poison.
Given the fact that British Columbians overwhelming indicated, late last Fall, that they were tired of politics as usual, I have to say I am amazed that anyone else (or numerous others) would continue on the same track just months later. Have those who aspire to lead us not learned anything from how the Liberal Party has failed to provide accountability and honesty?
This is why over the weekend I was appalled to see a story posted in a blog that I believe was intentionally misleading and inaccurate.
As in most blogs, the opportunity to post a response was provided, which I did (see my comment below the following story). Regrettably, the blogs author chose to not post my reply, and so I would like to let you know what I had to say in response. Please note my comment was posted at 7:28am on February 19th. I will leave up to you to decide why the comments I had to make were not get posted as of this going online two days later at 4:30am (Monday).
