The “New” BC Liberals … the "Feline" variety

This is the kind of stuff that can't be made up ... read on if you care ...

The Province:  The cat is out of the bag on Christy Clark’s campaign faux paw.  Now Clark and her organizers are scrambling to explain why a housecat has been signed up by her campaign team to cast a ballot for the next premier of B.C.

The BC Liberal party is reviewing the details surrounding the sign-up of a cat who shows up on the voters’ list as Olympia Marie Wawryk.  On Dec. 14 Olympia was signed up, having paid $10 for the privilege of casting a ballot for the next premier of the province. The vote happens later this month.  Read the Province story -- click HERE

The Globe and Mail:  The official B.C. Liberal membership list shows Olympia Marie Wawryk joined the party on Dec. 14, paying $10 for the privilege of casting a ballot for the next premier of British Columbia later this month.

But the record is fuzzy on one key detail: Olympia is rather fuzzy herself, in a feline way.  Olympia is a cat and belongs to Kristy Wawryk, a senior volunteer in the Christy Clark campaign – who was a little hazy herself on just how Olympia came within a whisker of getting a personal identity number and the right to vote rights in the Feb. 26 election.

“It’s a family member of mine,” said Ms. Wawryk – who is also the BC Liberal riding association president for Delta South – when asked if she had recruited Olympia. She identified Olympia Wawryk as a great aunt who lives with her at her Ladner, B.C., residence.  Read the Globe and Mail story, click HERE

Sadly, I am reminded of a quote from Christy Clark at the Wednesday leadership debate which was held in Kamloops.  She said, "We need an open government, we really need to open it up".  Now ... who would have known she was referring to cats and not to BC voters and taxpayers?

Please bear with me ... here's just one more quote.  I apologize, I just couldn't help it :)
"Our first question is why would anybody restrict the number of membership books available to sign up members to the party?" asked Clark campaign co-chair Sharon White.   "They're allocating less than three books per riding," she added.
