A buzz about the future of the BC Conservatives

Over the past week or so, and indeed in the past couple of days since former Conservative MP John Cummins announced his intention to lead the BC Conservative Party, there have been lots of comments, stories, and editorials in the news.

What I like to hear however, are the comments from people are people that have expressed an interest in the party and what it believes in … and the comments of members of the party. What have they had to say … well here is a snapshot that has come to me in recent days:

  • What a crazy day! Very exciting for the BC Conservatives in this province!
  • We need to remind people that the votes don't belong to the parties, they belong to the voters. Basically, the Liberals are saying they can only win if no other palatable options arise. Not very flattering to them.
  • Great News for BC! A light at the end of the tunnel
  • If you're starting to feel that things in politics are changing faster than the Canuck's fourth line, you're not alone.
  • Our Glorious Premier-ette has heard the sound of the Conservative drum beating which frightens her and her advisers.
  • We have started receiving significant funds for the Leader's travel.
  • Honesty, transparency, accountability -– sounds like things worth supporting to me.
  • Wow, what a morning. The buzz about the future of the BC Conservatives is out there now! Lots of work ahead of us!

I place NO judgment on those who do not believe that John Cummins is conservative enough – especially those who have heard him say he has in fact voted NDP in the past. But he is not the only one among us that has done that – myself included.

BC Conservatives, I believe, need to clearly carve out the territory left vacated by the BC Liberals -- and the BC NDP. That is the territory around transparency, accountability and responsibility to the people of BC.

Men and women from across this province, from all walks of life, are building the new BC Conservative Party … and they now have posted a Contract with British Columbia, which comes from the parties core values, beliefs, and principles.

Based on this, John Cummins, and the 85 BC Conservative candidates, will be able to go to the voters with a platform of conservative policies that voters will be able to understand and support.

In Kamloops, I'm Alan Forseth, and those are the thoughts of one conservative.
