Splitting the vote -- parties on one side of the spectrum will vie for votes based on the fact they have similar policies

I agree that the BC Conservative Party needs to do more to address the questions and points being raised in the following email which was forwarded to me. What did it say? Well in part it included the following, which I will make comment on in a few places along the way.

Why are you not addressing the media on issues at hand in the commentaries? Would it not be a sensible idea to relay to the people of British Columbia - in open dialogue - that the idea of (splitting the vote) does not equate to British Columbia politics and the stance of the individual party policies? For instance:
... the NDP Policies are left of centre ... I agree
... the Liberal Policies are left of centre ... I agree
... the Conservative Policies are centre / right / centre ... this is something I thought the other day and wondered if there was anyone like minded --- looks like two of us anyway
...    ... the Greens are left of centre ... not so sure I would totally agree
When splitting the vote, it is required that the Parties on one side of the spectrum will vie for votes based on the fact that they have similar policies. If there is only one Party on the Right of the spectrum there is no splitting of the vote on the Right Policies.

I agree totally with this, and in fact argued the other day there really is no need to have a separate Liberal Party AND and a separate NDP Party. The Liberals tend to drift to NDP ideas ... and currently two of the leading NDP leadership candidates are saying the party need to move closer to the centre. I for one have to ask, then what is their reason for being?

The issue of Vote Splitting has come up in the media this week a number of times addressing the Liberals and Conservatives as a group that necessitates splitting the vote. This to all intents and purposes is incorrect.

This viewpoint is entirely wrong – and the BC Conservative Party must do everything it can to counter this. The party, and even John Cummins (who has declared his intentions to lead the party) have been saying this for some time now. John Cummins has even gone so far, and thankfully the quote was used on TV in the news, to say the BC Conservative Party are NOT vote splitters but are however “Vote Attractors”.

BUT who is the BC Conservative Party? Yes it is the executive, the board of directors, and John Cummins the probable soon to be leader. BUT more importantly it is each and every member of the party. And those are the people that also needs to be spreading that message. Our friends, neighbours and family are more likely to believe that from us, than from 'political parties”. And hearing the message from us, and the party, has a reinforcing effect, right? We cannot shirk our own role in letting people know what the BC Conservative Party has to offer.

The Liberals and the NDP are the ones that would be splitting the vote because of their stance on the left of the spectrum.

YES --- I agree, so what are we waiting for. That is the message EACH of us has to be take to the people of BC. This is not simply the role of the BC Conservative Party.

In conclusion I agree with the writer who indicated the party needs to do more to try and get the message out --- BUT, we are all the BC Conservative Party so let's all do our part in spreading that message.

I'm Alan Forseth in Kamloops with the thoughts of at least two conservatives.
