This is a government that, after the next provincial election, will be replaced by John Cummins and the BC Conservatives.

It’s back to work today at the legislature in Victoria; today begins the 4th session of the 39th Parliament.  The first session of the 39th Parliament began on August 25th, 2009 , over two years ago, with a Speech from the Throne by Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Stephen L. Point.  Here are a few points from that throne speech:
Former BC Premier
Gordon Campbell
As British Columbia endures its worst recession in 27 years, many are worried about their economic future. Families worry about their prospects. Government shares their concerns. It will dedicate its efforts to improving B.C. families' prospects and economic circumstances. It will not happen overnight and it will not be easy, but government will work tirelessly, so B.C. comes out of this economic maelstrom stronger.  The pace, depth and scope of the economic crisis surpassed expectations.

The BC Liberal government of the day, led by then Premier Gordon Campbell, knew full well the economy of the province was not on its best footing, still the BC Liberals have continued to increase debt and deficit --- WHY???

The government committed to work to make B.C. more competitive, reduce barriers to the economy and protect core public services.

Remember now, this is from a speech given two years ago.  But, does anyone recall part of Christy Clarks big job growth announcement from a couple weeks ago??   I’m pretty sure I recall that she just re-announced the very same thing --- WHY???

Oh you are going to love this next one.  No actually it is going to leave you very annoyed AND ticked.  Again this is from the Speech from the Throne, of the First Session of the 39th Parliament, in August of 2009:

The fiscal cupboard is bare and currently hangs on a wall of deficit spending. Intrinsic to our budget crunch is the chance to discover new ways of doing things and to find new savings by doing things differently in all ministries and Crown agencies.  The answer to today's fiscal challenges is not to slough them off to future taxpayers.  It is not to take the easy path of least resistance that pretends nothing has changed.  This government chooses to take the harder path that resists overspending.

I could say what I think about how they’ve done with this one, but what do you think?  How many fees have gone up?  How much has the carbon tax increased? Has the annual budget deficit gone down?  Has the debt gone down?  No you say --- WHY???

We cannot pretend that we can borrow with impunity to satisfy our wants without hurting future generations' ability to provide for their basic needs.  While we will protect critical health and education services, we will not throw up our hands, throw in the towel and borrow our way into oblivion.

Really … “… while we protect critical health and education?”  Yeah right!! That’s why this Christy Clark led BC Liberal government FORCES schools and hospitals to take precious resources from their budgets – and then transfer them to the Pacific Carbon Trust.  Those are the folks that take those ‘critical’ resources, and turns around and gives them the gas companies like Encana, and forestry companies like Interfor.  WHY???

Oh here’s another great one …
All government-funded entities will focus their efforts on speeding the return to balanced budgets.  A review is now underway with respect to BC Ferries and TransLink.  Public funding devoted to public transit and ferry services should not be used to subsidize unreasonably high compensation levels or administrative costs.

BC Ferries is going deeper in the hole, and routes are being cut.  At least the zillion dollar a year head of BC Ferries, David Hahn, finally capitulated and announced his retirement.  He’s still going to get a HUGE pension however … a pension that this BC Liberal government allowed to happen --- WHY???

New legislation will deny income assistance to anyone in British Columbia who has an outstanding warrant from another province.

I don’t even recall this one but I wonder if it did happen, and if not --- WHY??

British Columbia will negotiate agreements on lands and resources based on the recognition of pre-existing Aboriginal rights that coexist with those of the Crown.

You gotta love the flip-flop from Christy Clark around this.  The Prosperity Mine in the Chilcotin region got a go-ahead from the environmental review but the feds said “No”.  Clark blustered and said it need to go ahead and should.  So where is she on it now??? Playing politically correct and saying the folks at Taseko need to bend over backwards even more to try and get the approval of First Nations leaders.  Dear Christy --- they aren’t going to approve it --- they don’t want it – even if their own people do (and I suspect many of them do).  Christy --- why did you do a flip flop on this --- WHY???

Together, we are opening up our transportation gateways, with new investments in our roads, bridges, ports, railways, airports, border crossings and ferries … a new Northern Energy Corridor will open up our ability to export liquefied natural gas from the Northeast through the Port of Kitimat to the massive Asian marketplace.

Great shades of the Christy Clark jobs dog and pony show from a couple weeks back; she announced this right?  No, this is from the Throne Speech of August 2009 – but yes, it was just re-announced again by Christy Clark --- WHY???

A major initiative will be commenced to encourage affordable market housing in B.C. that will put the dream of a single-family home within the economic reach of our children.

I haven’t seen a sign of this --- in fact with all the government induced confusion over the HST and GST / PST … the cost of housing has been going up making it harder and harder for British Columbians to have that dream --- WHY???

British Columbians must look beyond the Olympics and all the opportunity it will bring … hold up the picture of how things can be and show a people ready to accept and meet our tests with openness and honesty, who know that accepting the difficult challenge is the road to a better future for us all … a province creating its future and building on its strengths with a long-term vision that focuses on its children and grandchildren … discover one of the great places in the world to live and raise a family … may we all commit to keep our province strong and reach new summits together.

I don’t know about you, but I think most British Columbian’s want to work hard to succeed and get ahead … they want a good future … they want the opportunity to get a good education … to get a good well-paying job … to raise a family and have a home.

That has been the desire of most British Columbians for decades.

This government however has led us down the garden path with record spending and debt, and making not only the current generation responsible to pay it off --- but also the coming generations.  They have made them responsible for nearly $60 billion dollars in debt --- WHY???

This is a government with ... no plan ... no vision ... no future.

This is a government that is ... wasteful in its spending.

This is a government that ... refuses to be accountable and responsive.

This is a government that ... has to go!

This is a government that ... will go!!

This is a government that, after the next provincial election, will be replaced by John Cummins and the BC Conservatives.

I’m Alan Forseth in Kamloops, with the thoughts of one conservative, on this round ball we call planet earth.
