Kevin Falcon was first elected in 2001 as a British Columbia Liberal to represent the riding of Surrey-Cloverdale, and re-elected in 2005. Before his election to the Legislative Assembly, Falcon was president of the Access Group, a corporate communications firm he formed in 1998. He has also worked in the real estate development industry and was vice-president of Northwest Investment Properties. Prior to attending university, he spent five years working in the general insurance industry.
Kevin Falcon has been touted as being part of the conservative side of the BC Liberal Party, but is he??
Kevin Falcon has been touted as being part of the conservative side of the BC Liberal Party, but is he??
He has stated, "We're not doing it the old NDP way where you borrow money you don't have and you have your grandchildren paying the costs. We're doing it pay as you go."
As Will McMartin said however, "Pay as you go" is as phony as a three-dollar bill. And that's especially true under Kevin Falcon, Gordon Campbell and their BC Liberal government.
Two things have also caused controversy for Falcon ... one his suggestion of merit based pay for teachers. The other has been the suggestion of support he has of big business.
An interview also stated that he, “ ... also acknowledged that he has been a part of Premier Gordon Campbell's cabinet during some of the Liberals' most disliked decisions -- particularly the wildly unpopular harmonized sales tax.
The article went on to say that Falcon indicated that, “... provoking protests and angering voters is just part of the job.
"If you're going into public life hoping not to ever make unpopular decisions, you really should pick another career, because this is a career that requires you sometimes to make difficult decisions. I've always tried to do the right thing, not necessarily the easy thing," he said.
Who does Kevin Falcon say he is? In an interview with CTV Falcon said, "I've got a reputation as being someone that's pretty plain-spoken; I sort of say it as I see it. I actually think that's a long way to go to start to bring people involved, by just being candid about things, not dissembling or trying to be too cute in your answers -- just telling the truth as you see it.”
Who does the NDP say Falcon is? They say he is a far-right-winger, calling him an "extremist who looks up to ultra-conservative leaders" on the website falconkidding.me.
Falcon though says that he's, “ ...always tried to make decisions not based on ideological issues."
On Saturday, the BC liberal Party will announce their new leader – and the next premier of the province.
