Search for a leader has begun ... and national survey results

Well it has been a very busy week at work ... several meetings ... and I've been sick to boot.  I guess that's my way of saying that I am slacking off today as I have not had time to write the story I had planned to, that will have to wait now until next week.

Still, I would like to let you know, if you were not already aware, that the BC Conservative Party has begun the search for a leader who will be elected by "all" members of the party in a one-member = one-vote election.  Nominations for Party Leader will be received by the Party Secretary from March 1 through to March 29, 2011.

If you are interested in finding out the full details on the leadership convention, which is being held in Vancouver on Saturday May 28th, click HERE.

You are also able to download a copy of the nomination documents at that same URL.

As to the survey results, look at the following and then tell me that BC is not a province where the majority of people are small "c" conservatives:

·         A national survey, conducted exclusively for Postmedia News and Global National, found the Conservatives are now supported by 43% of decided voters — up by four points from early February.

·         the survey shows the Conservatives have a 16-point lead over the Liberals, led by Michael Ignatieff.

·         They are increasingly attracting support beyond their traditional base and are receiving more support from middle-income Canadians, women, university-educated voters and foreign-born Canadians.

·         In BC, the Conservatives have 48% of the vote, compared to 22% for the NDP, 21% for the Liberals and 8% for the Green party.

That's all for today ... tomorrow and through the weekend the regular edition of "This Week in BC Politics" will return.

Bye for now ... alan
