Are you asking the same question I am; is Tim Horton’s part of Christy Clark’s new health care plan for British Columbians?
Just like the Royal City in New Westminster, we have several Tim Horton’s outlets right here in Kamloops where I live. I just wonder if next time there’s an emergency in our family, if that’s where I should be headed to?
Incredibly, Health Minister Colin Hansen seemed quite okay with a Tim Horton coffee shop, at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, being turned into an emergency ward on Monday night.
Hansen was quoted in an interview saying that, “This was after hours. The space was not otherwise used. It was properly cleaned before it was used for patients and properly cleaned afterwards. Appropriate screening was put up, so patients could have privacy”
Personally I think that a coffee shop, no matter how good the service, should NOT be part of health care in a province like British Columbia -- it should not be part of the health care program of ANY province of Canada.
There would be benefits, like having food services more closely placed to patients, possibly allowing them to actually have a hot meal; but I am not sure having the opportunity for a double latte, while having a double by-pass, is the kind of ‘change’ British Columbians envisioned, want, or expect from a Christy Clark BC Liberal government.
“Change” was a point Christy Clark referred to several times after her leadership win on the third ballot Saturday evening in Vancouver. Clark was quoted as saying, “Change begins tonight” … "I have a mandate for change from the party and all of our caucus members recognize that".
I know Christy Clark has indicated she wanted to bring government closer to the people, however I sincerely hope Christy’s next plan, regarding ‘change’, does not include a Roll up the Rim cross-promotion with Tim Horton’s, where the prize list will include necessary hospital equipment.
I’m Alan Forseth in Kamloops, and those are the thoughts of one conservative.
