Yesterday, Christy Clark and the BC Liberal Party posted a new video on
their YouTube channel. A video in which
she began by saying “It’s been quite a year for British Columbia …”
I couldn’t agree with her more on that!
Last year was both interesting and exciting … it was a year in which BC
Liberals and the New Democrats elected new leaders … and one in which the fledgling
BC Conservative Party went from 5% in the polls to 23% in the months following
the election of John Cummins as leader, the development of dozens of
constituency association, and the building of a strong party foundation.
But back to the video, and the words of Christy Clark. For example these words at the 9 second mark …
“We’ve come together to bring the right kind of change to our province”
Sorry Christy but the actions of your government don't match the words
being spoken --- and the talk of openness and member participation – well that’s
about a year late now.
The platform and ideas she is NOW asking to have contributed ‘by the
people’??? They are already part of the BC Conservative Party Policy and Guiding
Principles document; one developed and created by
the rank and file members of the party during the past year.
Why do I know this??
It’s because I was a part of the process, and I saw many great common sense ideas and suggestions that came in from members’ right here
in the Kamloops, Thompson, Nicola region.
Those ideas were discussed, worked on, and then submitted to the
policy committee that oversaw them being careful put together into a proposed
policy document for review by all of the members. THEN … over 150 people came together to fine
tune and approve it as a finished document at the party AGM last September in Nanaimo.
That finished document contains the Policies
and Guiding Principles of the BC Conservative Party
But let me get back to Christy's video. In concluding her short minute and a half pep talk to members of the BC
Liberal Party she said:
“ … I’m looking forward to our plans to engage party members, and to
hearing your ideas … to working with you, and putting them into action … I’m
looking forward to working with you in the new year.”
If she had started out that way last spring, after being elected
the new leader of the BC Liberal Party, she would not be currently tied in the
polls with John Cummins and the BC Conservative Party … and the negative attack
ads, a year and a half in advance of the next general election, would not have
already begun.
This is timely to wrap up with today ... and it just came in to me as a message from a friend:
“I think people need positive leaders, positive solutions to our problems with policies to match. A leader who can sell a common sense positive vision for BC's future will win the next election.”
“I think people need positive leaders, positive solutions to our problems with policies to match. A leader who can sell a common sense positive vision for BC's future will win the next election.”
I’m Alan Forseth in Kamloops … with the thoughts of one conservative.
