Dear Christy ... the legislation is NOT open to adjustment ... or interpretation.

Premier Christy Clark
BC Legislature
Victoria, BC

Dear Christy,

You do not know me, however consider me to be one of many like minded British Columbians, who have no appetite or desire for a provincial election.  Please take pity on us!

Michael Ignatieff and the rest of your Liberal friends and associates in Ottawa – and their buddies the NDP and Bloc -- already plan to send us to the polls AGAIN for the kuzillianth time in a few years.  Great – we get to vote in a federal election that will again change absolutely nothing; although perhaps the voters of Canada will have the last laugh on Ignatieff and give Steven Harper and the Conservative a majority government.
Anyway, back to you Christy.  Courtesy again of the BC Liberals, and your reckless rush to bring in the HST, we are now are being forced into voting on whether to retain it, or get rid of it.  Given the fact that your Liberal government took the bribe of a billion plus dollars to implement the HST, BC residents will likely be forced to keep the hated tax, or end up with a huge bill to Ottawa.  Thanks for nothing Christy.

So … do you really want to force us into a provincial general election as well?

For at least two years now, your BC Liberal government has not been accountable to the voters of this province.  You have brought in the HST with no consultation, you have refused to hold an inquiry into BC Rail and the $6 million dollar Basi / Virk defence payment, your government has from all appearances driven BC Hydro into near bankruptcy, and on and on the list goes.

There is one thing that I do agree with you on though Christy.  On Monday you said that voters need a chance to vote on the premier.  You stated, “… I don't have a mandate from the people, I have a mandate from my party. So I want to go and get that mandate from the people.”

Guess what Christy --- we want a chance to vote on you too --- but we’re willing to wait until May 2013.  Until then, call the by-election for Gordon Campbell’s old riding of Vancouver Point Grey and let the chips fall where they may, and see if they wish to have you as their elected MLA.

Let me refresh you on what you said during the leadership race for the BC Liberal Party:
“The set election date is not God’s word laid down to Moses. It’s an election date to give us predictability so we know when an election is going to be called in the normal course of things.”

It’s a little more than that Christy – it was done so that people like you could not call an election when ever you felt it in your best interest.  You were there when the Bill was presented in the legislature … you were there when it was voted on … and you voted in favour of having fixed election dates.

You might not think it is “some sacred text” … and that it is “open to adjustment for the extraordinary circumstances of a new premier seeking a mandate from the voters.”  I do hope however that you will reconsider those thoughts.

The legislation is N0T open to adjustment or interpretation.  Under B.C.'s fixed Election Day legislation, the next election is to be held on May 14, 2013.  Call the by-election … call it soon … and then take your seat (if you get elected) in the legislature.

Sincerely,
Alan Forseth
