Letter writer was firing on all cylinders

An interesting letter was submitted to the BC Conservative Party recently, which I thought pretty much hit on all cylinders.

For starters the writer said, “It is encouraging that you have elected a leader that perhaps has enough experience and ability to make a mark on BC politics.  I would suggest that you should make required reading the biography of WAC Bennett. It is a user manual for party leaders on how to get elected and how to stay elected.”

I too appreciate the fact that John Cummins is a leader who unlike the Liberals Christy Clark and the NDP’s Adrian Dix, has a wide and varied career working as a construction work, a commercial fisherman, a teacher, as well as 18 years as a federal MP.

What else did they have to say???

There are some issues that as a BC resident who cares are going to be issues.  The Columbia River Treaty, this important document is coming up for renewal soon. We need to have a firm hand at the wheel that fully understands this issue and is not willing to allow Ottawa to sell us down the river.

Public Service Pension unfunded liability, no politician wants to talk about this but if someone doesn’t have the courage to deal with it soon no amount of taxation is going to be able to pay for.

Oh and then they brought up tax reform – boy there’s one to get peoples blood boiling!  And the writer was bang on in saying:
“ … all the yapping about HST is mute, if we do not address the issue of a taxation system that will provide relief from deficit financing of social programs … could be headed for a similar situation to Greece, Spain and France … now faced with having to try to cut social benefits and increase taxes and are now facing rioting and civil unrest….”

I don’t know about you, but I am really sick of hearing the government say, “Look what we’ve done for you --- reduced this tax and that tax …”  Meantime, the costs of services go up --- special licenses go up … fee’s go up … everything just goes up and up.

It is honestly a joke, a sad joke mind you.

When will government get real – get honest – and let us know how much they need to operate and provide the services we desire and wish to have?   Let’s end the tinkering and get real for a change!

Oh and how about this comment;
Anyone who honestly believes that our children and grandchildren will be happy with the burden of taxation and debt that we are going to leave them…

I am now in my mid-50s with grown children --- and several grand-children.  I do not appreciate the mess of a taxation system we now have.  BUT given the fact the deficit remains – and debt is now approaching $60 BILLION dollars, how do you think up-coming generations will appreciate what we have saddled them with?

Some of them are already paying for the excess of the NDP in the 90’s … now we have Christy Clark's BC Liberals (aka NDP Light) continuing the cycle of spending more than comes in.

We need government that will actually walk the walk – not just talk the talk.  We need a government that will speak honestly about the costs of government, and we need a government that will be responsible AND accountable with for the tax dollars they ask us for.

We need a grassroots common sense government in BC --- one led by John Cummins and the BC Conservatives.

I’m Alan Forseth in Kamloops … and those are the thoughts of one conservative.
