Only one political party has recognized the insanity of a carbon tax that takes from health and education -- and gives it to big business

The Carbon Tax, initiated by the BC Liberal government, robs much needed money from the education needs of BC children ... and from medical care.

In 2010 (2011 not available) the BC Liberal government required School District 73, Kamloops/Thompson to pay the Pacific Carbon Trust a total of $106,496 in carbon taxes.

That same year, the BC Liberal government also required the Interior Health Authority to pay the Pacific Carbon Trust nearly $1 million dollars ($965,891) in Carbon Taxes.

And Thompson Rivers University?  Well they ended up shelling out $103,310 as well.

Good grief, even the Pacific Carbon Trust itself got hit for a carbon tax of $170

And what do these carbon taxes do?  They allow the provincial government to, only on paper, claim that British Columbia is carbon neutral.

A story in the Tyee (Why the Pacific Carbon Trust Draws Political Heat) in December of last year stated:
This has caused plenty of criticism, especially from public sector bodies. School boards have been angrily vocal about having to send tax dollars to a Crown corporation called the Pacific Carbon Trust (PCT), which uses the money to pay profitable corporations like Encana to cut their greenhouse gas emissions.

Another story that I found on Independent MLA Bob Simpsons website (Public sector’s carbon offsets subsidize B.C.’s big businesses) said that:
Among the private corporations that benefited from such offset expenditures: Lafarge cement; forest companies Canfor, Interfor and TimberWest; natural gas company Encana; and Kruger Products, a manufacturer of toilet paper and related products. They earned the right to sell offsets to the public sector based on energy-saving initiatives.

Wouldn't you rather have seen that money spent to help reduce surgery wait times … to help provide emergency room care … and to go to much needed resources for BC classrooms?

Following his election as leader of the BC Conservative Party, last May, John Cummins stated:
I am pleased to announce today that a new BC Conservative government will abolish the carbon tax and the carbon bureaucracy that goes with it. Gas will cheaper. It will cost less to drive your kids to school; that school will have more resources because they won’t be paying carbon tax. For millions of British Columbians who live outside of urban areas, where public transit is not an option, they will find relief.

Only one political party in BC has recognized the insanity of a carbon tax that takes from health and education, and turns around and gives it to big business.

Again I ask, wouldn’t you rather see that money invested to help reduce surgery wait times … to help provide emergency room care … and to go to much needed resources for BC classrooms?
