IT'S SATURDAY --- “Hello Nanaimo”

People have been streaming into the conference centre for the BC Conservative AGM for the past hour and looks like there will be a good turnout.

Anyone get today’s Globe and Mail? The BC section today has to interesting columns that I had a chance to read between visits with people here at the AGM.

Gary Mason's op /ed was on the front page enttled, “Little to digest with B.C. Premier’s mundane recipe for job creation”.  He started off by saying, “If Premier Christy Clark’s much-hyped jobs strategy announced this week demonstrated anything, it’s how few tools governments now appear to have at their disposal to fire up an economy.

What really struck me was his comment, “The B.C. Conservative Party under John Cummins is on the rise, a fact confirmed by the Liberal Party’s recent attack ads targeting the former Tory MP. Ms. Clark did not want her economic announcement this week to give conservative-minded voters in the province more reasons to give Mr. Cummins a look and Mr. Cummins any more ammunition against her Liberal government. We’ll see how well it works.

My personal opinion this week, of Christy Clark's road show tour, is that is been high on razzle dazzle, and short on substance. What's been of interest, is that many others feel and beleive that is so as well.

Oh before I go (the AGM has begun) I want to mention the Globe and Mail today is a 2fer. Be sure to have a read of Stephen Quinn's article, “B.C. politicians playing ‘everybody do as I say’”

A quick quote from it says, “... they both positioned themselves in front of projects conceived long ago and delivered scripted speeches that may have managed to convince at least some voters that they are actually doing something new ... isn’t explicitly taking credit for the idea, but it has been a while since anyone’s hauled out that map, and, well you know. Sometimes just being there is enough. Place yourself beside something that people value, and let them create the positive association in their mind.”

Both articles are well worth a read so I would recommend trying to pick up the Globe and Mail and have a read at the full stories.

Well the AGM has begun ... and this has taken me nearly an hour to write (distractions). Time to pay full attention so I will be back a little later.

I'm Alan Forseth, with the thoughts of one conservative ... from NANAIMO ...
